What this actually is

Businesses hire us to find out what their customers really experience. We hire local people — we call them Epic Evaluators — to call those businesses the way a real customer would, and then tell us honestly what happened.

Who answered. How they were treated. What was asked, and what wasn't.

This is similar to mystery shopping — except a shopper buys something. An evaluator understands something. That understanding comes from the training we give you before your first call.

Being straight with you up front: this is not full-time or part-time work, and you would not be an employee. You'll sign an agreement stating you're doing this as an independent contractor.

The work, in plain terms

Some calls connect on the first try. Others need a callback a day or two later — that's part of what we're measuring, and you're paid the same either way.

What you need

A current North Dakota or South Dakota driver's license
A vehicle you own or lease
Free weekday daytime hours over about two weeks
The ability to write clearly — the write-up is the actual product

One more thing. Like every research firm, we screen for conflicts of interest — there are a few industries where working in them, or living with someone who does, rules you out of certain assignments. We'll cover that when we talk.

Please be skeptical. Here's how to check us.

Mystery shopping is one of the most impersonated jobs in America. The Federal Trade Commission publishes warnings about it. You should be careful — and we'd rather tell you how than hope you don't ask.

A real evaluation company will never:

Send you a check and ask you to wire part of it back
Ask you to buy gift cards
Ask for your bank login or your Social Security number
Ask you to pay anything to get started

We never do any of those things. If anyone claiming to be Epic Evaluator or UtterlyEpic ever does, that's fraud — report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov, and please tell us.

What happens next

You fill out the Good Fit form below. About 60 seconds. Name, how to reach you, and one question.

We contact you the same day. Usually within the hour — a text and an email, so you have both.

A short conversation. About ten minutes, to make sure the work fits you and you fit the work. Ask us anything.

Then the real paperwork. If it's a fit, we walk you through registering in our evaluator system and signing a standard independent contractor agreement. It's more detailed — that's deliberate, and we do it after you've decided, not before.

Training. Around 45 minutes on Zoom, one-on-one, walking through the actual evaluation form question by question — before you make a single call. You keep the recording.

Once we've talked and you decide this is for you, we'll walk you through registering in our evaluator system and signing a standard independent contractor agreement. That's where the detailed questions live. No point doing paperwork for something you haven't decided on yet.
